Wildlife - meet the locals

As a country estate bordering a placid lake, Threepwood boasts abundant wildlife.

The Downs is well populated with the harmless McCaan’s Skink, and an extensive ongoing plan to maintain their habitat has been underway since development began.

Down by the shore of Lake Hayes the rich plumage and stately strut of the pukeko brings brilliant colour to the greenery while the water itself is home to countless ducks and visiting geese, not to mention untold numbers of trout and other assorted marine life.

Up above The Downs, Slopehill is an ideal place to catch close-up views of Australasian Harrier Hawks seeking their prey in the peace and quiet of the Wakatipu sunshine. Outside the rabbit fence a ready, if not willing source of food keeps airborne predators coming back for more in nature’s unstoppable cycle of life.
